PULP THERAPY AND ROOT CANALS

When decay reaches deep inside your child’s tooth and pain sets in, pulp therapy is the treatment that relieves that discomfort and saves the tooth from extraction. At Britto Children’s Dentistry, we perform pulpotomies and pulpectomies with gentle numbing, calm explanations, and a pace that keeps children relaxed from start to finish. Saving a natural tooth today protects your child’s jaw development, bite alignment, and overall smile for years ahead.

INFECTION RELIEF

TREATING DEEP DECAY BEFORE IT TAKES THE WHOLE TOOTH WITH IT

Many parents hear the words pulp therapy or root canal and immediately feel alarmed. At Britto Children’s Dentistry, we want you to understand that these procedures are among the most effective and important tools we have for saving a child’s tooth when decay has reached its inner tissue. Left untreated, an infected pulp causes significant pain, spreads bacteria to surrounding teeth and bone, and almost always results in losing the tooth entirely.

We perform pulpotomies when infection is limited to the upper portion of the pulp, and pulpectomies when infection has spread more deeply into the root canals. Both procedures are completed under thorough local anesthesia so your child experiences minimal discomfort, and sedation options are available for children who need additional support to feel relaxed.

After the infected tissue is removed and the tooth is cleaned, we seal and protect it with a crown to restore full function and prevent reinfection. The entire treatment is explained clearly to both you and your child before anything begins, and our team remains attentive and communicative throughout every single step.

OUR COMMITMENT

SAVING YOUR CHILD'S TOOTH IS ALWAYS OUR FIRST AND STRONGEST PRIORITY

At Britto Children’s Dentistry, extraction is always our last resort. Our team exhausts every possible option to preserve a natural tooth before recommending removal, because we know how much a healthy baby tooth contributes to your child’s development, speech, chewing ability, and permanent tooth alignment. When pulp therapy is the right path, we carry it out with precision, patience, and genuine compassion for every child in our chair. We answer every parent question thoroughly, use the gentlest possible techniques, and follow up carefully to make sure healing goes exactly as it should.

WHAT TO EXPECT

STEP BY STEP CARE THAT PUTS YOUR CHILD AT EASE FROM THE VERY FIRST MOMENT

Pulp therapy appointments at Britto Children’s Dentistry begin long before any instrument is introduced. Our team spends meaningful time helping your child understand what is going to happen, using calm and age-appropriate language that replaces fear with familiarity. We apply numbing medication carefully and completely before any treatment begins so the procedure itself is as comfortable as possible.

Throughout the appointment we check in with your child regularly, adjust our approach based on how they are responding, and never rush through any step. Once treatment is complete and the tooth is protected with a crown, we review home care instructions with you and schedule appropriate follow-up to confirm full recovery.
