FRENECTOMY AND TONGUE TIES

A tongue-tie, lip-tie, or buccal tie that goes unaddressed can affect how your baby feeds, how your toddler speaks, eats,  breaths and how your child’s jaw develops over time. At Britto Children’s Dentistry, we evaluate and treat these oral tissue restrictions using advanced laser technology that makes the procedure fast, precise, and far more comfortable than traditional methods. One brief in-office visit can unlock meaningful improvements that families notice right away.

ORAL TISSUE RELEASE

REMOVING THE RESTRICTION THAT IS HOLDING YOUR CHILD BACK

Tongue-ties, lip-ties, and buccal ties occur when the small bands of tissue connecting the tongue, lips, or cheeks to the mouth are too short, thick, or tight to allow full and comfortable movement. In infants, this restriction commonly interferes with breastfeeding, causing poor latch, inadequate milk transfer, and significant discomfort for both baby and mother. In older children, the same restriction can affect speech clarity, swallowing patterns, dental alignment, and even breathing during sleep.

At Britto Children’s Dentistry, every evaluation begins with a thorough assessment of your child’s oral function, feeding history, and any concerns raised by parents, lactation consultants, or speech therapists. We take the time to confirm that a restriction is genuinely present and clinically significant before recommending any procedure. We never treat unnecessarily.

When a frenectomy is the right step, we perform it using precise laser technology that replaces the need for scissors or sutures. The laser seals as it releases, which means minimal bleeding, reduced risk of infection, significantly less discomfort, and a faster healing process. Most children recover remarkably quickly and families begin noticing functional improvements within days of the procedure.

OUR COMMITMENT

EVERY EVALUATION IS THOROUGH AND EVERY TREATMENT DECISION IS YOURS TO MAKE

At Britto Children’s Dentistry, we never rush families towards a frenectomy. Our team conducts a complete functional evaluation, listens carefully to the concerns you have been living with, and presents our findings with complete honesty and clarity. If treatment is recommended, we explain exactly what the laser procedure involves, what to expect during recovery, and what functional improvements are realistic to anticipate. If treatment is not warranted, we tell you that too. Our only goal is an outcome that genuinely improves your child’s quality of life, and we will only recommend a procedure if we feel it will do exactly that.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A THOROUGH EVALUATION FOLLOWED BY A GENTLE PROCEDURE AND CLEAR RECOVERY SUPPORT

Your first appointment at Britto Children’s Dentistry for a suspected tongue-tie or lip-tie begins with a complete functional assessment rather than an immediate treatment recommendation. Our team examines the tissue restriction carefully, reviews your child’s feeding, speech and breathing history, and discusses your observations as a parent before forming any clinical conclusion. This evaluation process ensures that every family leaves with a recommendation they fully understand and trust.

When a frenectomy is confirmed as the appropriate next step, we complete the laser procedure in our office. The procedure is minimally invasive with no sutures required. We provide detailed aftercare exercises and wound care instructions to support healing and help your child gain the full benefit of the release as quickly as possible.
